Talk Pasto: an investigation into territory and industry
“Pasto” is a conceptual and material research project that RIES worked on for almost three years, loaded with trial and error along the way, and whose protagonists are the wild, native grasslands of our pampas region.
What began as a series of experiments around the material turned over time into a deeper search, one that led us to look at the landscape we inhabit with different eyes.
The countryside in Argentina is one of the largest areas of the country geographically and is also one of the main engines of the economy, generating a high percentage of exports and contributing significantly to Gross Domestic Product. But its importance is not limited to the economic: it has also historically been a central, symbolic space in the construction of national identity, and therefore a territory loaded with myths, tensions and representations.

Marcos Altgelt and Tasio Picollo (Buenos Aires, 1989) are architects from the Universidad de Buenos Aires and founding partners of Ries, a design studio based in Buenos Aires that since 2016 has developed projects at the crossings between furniture, objects, interiors and architecture. They currently lead an interdisciplinary team of 15 people with whom they work for clients and institutions in Argentina, Europe, the United States and Latin America. Their work has been exhibited at design and contemporary art fairs, galleries and museums in cities such as New York, London, Copenhagen, Venice, São Paulo, Mexico City and Buenos Aires, and published in international media such as The New York Times, Architectural Digest, Vogue, Wallpaper* and Dwell, among others.
In 2018, together with Juan García Mosqueda, they founded Quick Tiny Shows, an experimental platform for exhibiting emerging ideas in art, design and architecture. In 2021 they opened Concepción Local, a self-managed space for independent culture and for the meeting of local designers, artists and producers. They have been invited to give talks and workshops at universities, biennials and cultural gatherings in Argentina, Chile, Cuba and the United States.
Since 2022 they have been the lead teachers of the Strategic Design Management studio on the Design degree at Universidad Torcuato Di Tella.
